Kaltern
Passito 'Quintessenz' 2017
91
A nimble wine with aromas of fresh herbs, roasted peaches and pressed flowers all converging at once, yet never becoming too intense. Rich, but with a kick of acidity that keeps the palate engaged as the dried stone fruits and roasted almonds melt together on the lush and long finish.

I have not tasted much Gewürztraminer from Cantina Kaltern, so this is a real treat. The 2018 Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Campaner is enormously fragrant and bright with a very specific and focused delivery that is not easy to achieve with this grape. Gewürztraminer aromas can appear all over the place, or become unruly, if not managed correctly. That's not the case here. White flower, jasmine and passion fruit are followed by a glossy note of latex or natural rubber that is true to the variety. There is a touch of sweet softness on the close along with tangy green herbal accents. Drink this wine young to capture that beautiful primary intensity.

Lagrein Classico 2022

Bright, medium deep purple; appealing aromas of black plum, blackberry, clove and purple orchid. Medium-bodied with impressive ripeness and typicity; medium-weight, round tannins, good acidity and a clean, nicely balanced finish. Enjoy now and over the next 2-4 years.
