Degani | Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 'Cicilio' 2018 | 89 | The 2018 Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore Cicilio impresses through a finessed and airy display of fresh violets and mint plus white smoke, blueberry and a subtle hint of animal musk. It’s silky in texture with ripe red fruits, salty minerals and a mix of inner rose and lavender tones. There’s nothing out of place in this balanced and juicy effort, which seems to have something new to say each time I revisit it, as it tapers off with floral nuances and a hint of plum.
Degani | Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore 'Cicilio' 2009 | 90 | Dark red. Plum, cardamom and cinnamon on the nose. Broader and sweeter than the estate's Valpolicella, with deeper fruit flavors of blackcurrant and black cherry. Like all ripassos, this is in a richer style, with good stuffing and palate presence, but I don't necessarily think that it's a better wine than the very pinot-like Valpolicella Classico made by Degani in 2010
Degani | Valpolicella Classico 2023 | 92 | Intense and vinous nose of strawberries, raspberries and pepper. The super-tense palate is crisp and tight, with chalky yet ripe tannins, a light to medium body and a savory, peppery finish. Drink now. |
