Bright cherry and strawberry fruit is shaded by earth and tobacco here and allied to a firm backbone of acidity and tannins. The added density will require a bit more time to fully knit together, yet this has the requisite fruit. Sangiovese and Canaiolo. Best from 2022 through 2036.

The 2017 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano opens to a sultry and savory character that reminds me of a raspy-voiced jazz singer. Happily, the metaphor fits perfectly because that's the other hat worn by proprietor Caterina Dei when she's not making wine. In fact, a music amphitheater is conveniently built into the back side of the barrel room. Dark fruit, dried cherry, tilled earthy and cured leather emerge from the bouquet.
