Chianti Classico Riserva 'Vigna Viacosta' 2016
93
Enrico Pozzesi sources this sangiovese from Viacosta, a south-facing amphitheater-shaped vineyard in Castellina in Chianti. The wine rested for three years in large oak casks, developing notes of tobacco, cured meat and black pepper that layer over its dark cherry and black currant fruit. With its powerful tannins, this will appeal to Brunello lovers. Enotec Imports, Denver, CO

Chianti Classico Riserva 'Vigna Viacosta' 2016

The 2016 Chianti Classico Vigna Viacosta is dark, ample and super-expressive. A blast of dark cherry, game, licorice, iron and smoke shows the more brooding side of Sangiovese. In the glass, the 2016 is deep and also massively tannic. Readers should expect a potent Chianti Classico. To be fully appreciated, the 2016 needs to be enjoyed alongside rich, hearty foods.

Reflective of the warm vintage, the 2015 Chianti Classico Vigna Viacosta (100% Sangiovese, aged in oak for 30 months) is another great edition of a beautiful wine from a promising producer located in Castellina in Chianti. The wine prizes firth and power
