About the Winery

Casalfarneto is a family owned, independent wine producer. With its 35 hectares of vineyard, CasalFarneto combines technology, tradition and sustainability to produce wines of excellence. Under the shade of "Farneto oaks", from which the Estate gets its name, the farmhouse boasts the cultivation of white and red grapes with particular focus on the Verdicchio, producing 10 different wines from it (from charmat to champenois, to stainless steel, cryomacerated, riserva, botrytis, passito).

Casalfarneto Wine Estate is located in the center of Le Marche, amongst the hills of Ancona province at the border with two well-known valleys: Valmisa and Vallesina. The latter, known for its small historical villages around the city of Jesi, is the ideal area for Verdicchio, a DOC white wine, praised by oenologists and sommeliers for its tasteful character. The company was founded in 1995 by Danilo Solustri, and a new winery was built in 2005. A few years later, the winery began to receive recognition from top publications such as Vinous, Gambero Rosso, Bibenda and others. In 2018 Paolo Togni, a local businessman, decided to step out from the Togni Group and concentrate on the development of Casalfarneto winery.

Marche

Ancient Romans loved the wine from Picenum, what is now Marche, and fossils show that wine has been produced there since the Iron Age. In addition to being a wonderful, peaceful place, located between the Apennine Mountains to the West and the Adriatic Sea to the East, the region has a hilly landscape, with small, fortified medieval towns, castles and monasteries located on each hilltop. It was the white Verdicchio wine, with its green amphora-shaped bottles, which put Marche on the wine map a few decades ago. The wine must have something magical properties because, according to legend, it was the Verdicchio which gave the Alaric soldiers courage to cross the Apennines and invade Rome.

Vineyard(s)
Our vineyards are between 270-350 meters a.s.l. and are located on the municipality of Serra de’ Conti on the right side of the river Misa, on the northern side of the appellation, 15 km away from the Appennines mountains and 30 km from the Adriatic sea. The river valley is open towards the sea, allowing constant mountain/sea ventilation day and night, which increase freshness and aromatic profile also on warm summers, and brings healthier grapes. The soil surface is medium dense, tendentiously loose texture, two meters below ground we find a deep layer of clay. The vineyard has North-East exposure.

Verdicchio 'Fontevecchia' 2021
2021

The 2021 Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore Fontevecchia lifts from the glass with a dusty mix of dried yellow flowers, apricots and hints of gingery spice. It's round with a burst of minerality up front that creates a reverberation of tension on the palate, as tart orchard fruits cascade throughout. This finishes impressively long, sizzling upon the palate with youthful intensity as pretty inner florals slowly fade.

Lacrima di Morra d'Alba 'Rosae' 2020

Bright, medium-intense purple; invigorating aromas of wild plum, boysenberry and lavender. Medium-bodied with impressive concentration, this has charming ripeness, very good acidity, moderate tannins, excellent harmony and very good persistence. What a distinctive, well-made wine! Enjoy this on its own or with duck breast with plum sauce or roast chicken tonight or over the next 3-5 years. Delicious!

This is the archetypical wine for “most bang for the buck.” Made from the Lacrima grape, this delicious and fun bottling highlights the dual nature of this grape, showing both fruits and flowers. Aromas of wild berries that are both ripe and preserved joyously work with fresh, dried and candied floral notes to fill the glass. The palate is bright with tarter fruit flavors and a savory herbal note that balances the juicy fruits. Add a little chill to this wine to get the full experience.

The 2020 Lacrima di Morro d'Alba Rosae is hauntingly beautiful in its aromas of violette pastille, lavender, spiced orange peels, crushed blueberries and smoke. While fruit-forward and fleshy in style, its balance is on point, mixing brisk acids with tart blackberries and currants. This is a pleasure to drink from start to finish. It leaves a twang of sour citrus that curls the tongue, as salty minerals and inner florals linger on and on. I'm not sure how CasalFarneto managed to pack so much character into the 2020 Rosae. This fun and zesty Lacrima is seriously worth checking out.
